Last week 13 teams from Muskoka Lakes Pickleball participated in the Ontario Senior Summer Games in the Haliburton-Muskoka District 11 Tournament.

The games started on the outdoor courts in Carnarvon and after sheltering from a sudden thunderstorm, players moved to the beautiful indoor community sports facility in Minden, where they continued play on 4 indoor courts.

The dedication to the game was well rewarded when our players brought home several medals led by Gloria Gardner and Mark Patterson getting Gold in the Mixed under-65 division. Gloria and Jill Coates won Bronze in the Ladies under-65, and Patrick Kernohan and Wayne Forth got a Bronze in Mens 65+ age group. Our heartiest congratulations to them and all our players who competed in some closely contested games and represented our area so well. The enthusiasm, competitive spirit and enjoyment was infectious among all these energetic seniors defying the stereotypical image of their age group!

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in North America. Originally appealing to seniors, it is now being played by all ages.

Players from Muskoka travel to various venues to find court time in this very social and fun sport – the results evident in the great achievements in this tournament.
