On Thurs., Jan. 15, 2026, Barrie police responded to a call about a suspicious person which resulted in a series of charges for two people, plus the seizure of drugs believed to be destined for our streets.
Police conducted a traffic stop on Hart Drive around 12:30 p.m. and upon approaching the vehicle, the officer observed in plain view a half-empty unsealed bottle of whisky in the rear seat, readily available to the driver.
Upon further investigation, the officer discovered a large amount of suspected cocaine.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of just under $50,000 in Canadian currency, additional suspected cocaine, and a spring-assisted prohibited knife.
As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old man from Mississauga and a 33-year-old woman from the Township of Muskoka Lakes, are charged with:
- Possession of a schedule 1 substance – cocaine
- Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
The male is further charged with:
- Driving a conveyance with liquor in open baggage
- Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order
- Possession of an identity document
