Muskoka is about to become the backdrop for Canada’s newest reality television series.
NBCUniversal’s reality streaming service Hayu announced Thursday that production is underway on Summer House Canada, marking the first international adaptation of the hit Bravo franchise. The 10-episode series will trade the Hamptons for Ontario’s famed cottage country, with Muskoka serving as the setting for the new show.
Like the popular U.S. version, the Canadian series will follow a group of friends who escape the city on weekends to share a luxurious lakeside cottage, where friendships, romances and plenty of drama unfold over the course of the summer.
“Muskoka offers the perfect, iconic Canadian setting to introduce Summer House Canada and build on the franchise’s momentum,” said Hendrik McDermott, managing director of international direct-to-consumer at NBCUniversal, in a news release.
The series is being produced by Vancouver-based Lark Productions, whose credits include The Real Housewives of Vancouver, The Real Housewives of Toronto, Farming for Love and Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent.
“Summer House has become a beloved global franchise known for its authentic friendships, big personalities and the unforgettable moments that come from spending a summer together,” said Erin Haskett, president and executive producer at Lark Productions.
