Muskoka man jailed for contacting minors

A Huntsville man who was ordered not to associate with minors will be going to jail for violating those orders.

William McVittie, 35, appeared in a Bracebridge courtroom recently to be sentenced on charges of contacting a minor under the age of 16, a violation of the terms of his probation.

McVittie was originally arrested as part of Project Maverick in 2022 and charged with possession of child pornography and making child pornography available

Project Maverick involved hundreds of charges being laid across Ontario in connection with a provincial strategy to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet.

The Ontario Provincial Police said during that operation, which occurred in October of 2022, 27 police services conducted 255 investigations, completed 168 search warrants and seized 1,032 devices.

As a result of that conviction, McVittie was ordered not to have contact with anyone under the age of 16.

However, in October 2024, police were informed that McVittie was likely violating the terms of probation.

An investigation revealed he had contacted two children under the age of 16 on multiple occasions.

He was sentenced to 90 days in jail, to be served on weekends.

90 days and on weekends???? Minors involved.,The sentence is a travesty. Hard labor for several years in the far north sends a message. that our children are off limits and crime won’t be tolerated. No wonder we have such lawlessness across the country.. There is a harsher more appropriate sentence that would guarantee no recidivism in this case. But our politicians are too weak. And of course there would be outrage at the United Nations.
