A major community fundraising effort is underway to build a new accessible playground at Bracebridge Public School within the next two years.
The current playground, which is more than 20 years old, no longer meets modern safety and accessibility standards. Last fall, some playground elements were removed after failing inspection, and organizers say it is only a matter of time before the remaining structure must also be taken down.
The new playground will be built on the school property to replace the existing structure. Organizers say the updated design will focus on accessibility and inclusivity so children of all abilities can safely enjoy the space. Because the school is centrally located and frequently used after school hours, weekends, summer camps, and community programs, the committee hopes the project will benefit families across the community for generations to come.
The BPS Playground Committee has launched a fundraising campaign with a goal of raising $300,000 over the next year and a half.
Community members can support the project through monetary donations dropped off at the school office. Cheques should be made payable to “TLDSB Charitable Trust” with “Bracebridge PS Playground Project” included in the memo line. Tax receipts will be issued by the school board.
Residents can also attend a fundraising Mini Putt event on June 5, 2026 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in partnership with Northern Escapade Mini Putt, with all admission proceeds supporting the playground project.
The committee is also seeking partnerships with local businesses interested in donating products, services, or sponsorship support.
