The specifics of a new pump track and community park in north Bracebridge are beginning to come into clearer focus.
During tomorrow’s Bracebridge general committee meeting, councillors will have the opportunity to approve the proposed location and conceptual design for the new project. The park and pump track are to be located on a 9.34-acre parcel of Town-owned parkland between Little Ryan’s Way and Douglas Drive.
On Tuesday councillors will also consider adding the projected cost of the development into the Town’s long-term capital plan.
Town staff report that as a result of community consultation, feedback from other municipalities, and the design consultant’s recommendations, they’ve included a number of future park amenities. That includes a parking area with access from Douglas Drive, benches, picnic tables, bike racks and garbage containers, park shelter and portable washroom facilities.
Pump tracks are both playgrounds and riding facilities for bikers, skateboarders or scooter riders of all skill levels. A pump track is a circuit of rollers, banked turns and features designed for riders so they can use their momentum, created from their arms and legs, to pump their bikes, boards and scooters around the track.
According to the report, the proposed conceptual design estimate provided for the park development is $1.5 million. Once constructed, future municipal budget and business plans will include an operational component of $15,000 per year for maintenance.
The project was originally set for construction in 2023 but was later bumped back to 2028/2029.
Although the existing long-term capital plan still contemplates construction occurring in 2028/2029, staff said they will continue to pursue grant opportunities and work with community groups to solicit sponsorships in the form of cash and in-kind donations, potentially providing an opportunity to advance the project.
