A new representative volleyball organization has been established in the Muskoka district, serving over 150 young athletes since its inception in April. As the new season approaches, tryouts for the Ontario Volleyball Association will take place during the first week of September.
The league is open to all players aged U13 (born in 2012 and 2013) up to U18 (who were born in 2008). The organization has been actively engaged in clinics and “road to rep” programs to prepare athletes for the upcoming fall season, which runs from September to April.
Affiliated with the Pioneers Volleyball Club in Barrie, the newly created satellite club, PVC Muskoka Wild, aims to provide local youth with accessible volleyball opportunities. So far, more than 160 players aged 9 to 17 have participated in various beach and court programs, marking a significant success for the initiative. The establishment of this club has alleviated the need for families to travel to Orillia and North Bay for rep volleyball.
The organization was founded by Ryan Murphy, a resident of Muskoka with a deep passion for youth sports. Murphy’s volleyball journey began in high school and continued through university. He has accrued valuable coaching experience over the years, including two years with the PVC Fury in the Ontario Volleyball Association and over a decade as an educator in the Trillium Lakelands District School Board.
