Rowing clubs from across the region came together on January 17, 2026 with a shared goal: to work more closely as a region and help more people discover and enjoy the sport of rowing.
Clubs represented at the meeting included Georgian Bay Rowing Club, Barrie Rowing Club, Muskoka Rowing Club, Orillia Rowing Club, and Collingwood Rowing Club. Following the discussion, the group felt it imperative to also welcome Owen Sound Rowing Club and Hatchats Rowing Club into the partnership and officially form a new regional collaborative called Near North Rowing.
Through Near North Rowing, clubs will collaborate on ideas, share knowledge, strengthen programming, support athlete development, and grow participation across the region. The group is committed to building a welcoming and connected rowing community that supports both new and experienced rowers.
Residents interested in trying rowing or learning more about local programs are encouraged to reach out to their nearest rowing club for information on opportunities for youth, adults, and masters rowers.
Near North Rowing looks forward to continued collaboration as clubs work together to support the long-term growth of rowing throughout the region.
