Police officers in Huntsville turned up some incriminating evidence during a recent RIDE check, a Bracebridge court heard recently.
Mitchell Warnica, 31, pled guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in his system.
Court heard that on Aug. 17, 2023, police had set up a RIDE check on Main Street in Huntsville.
At roughly 1:39 am they stopped a vehicle Warnica was driving and smelled cannabis inside. They also spotted a number of empty mini whiskey bottles in the car and a white powdery substance on the driver’s nose. A search turned up a substance believed to be cocaine along with “dime bags” and scales, court heard.
A breathalyzer test found readings of 150 mg of alcohol in Warnica’s system.
He was originally charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking but the charge was later reduced to simple possession and eventually dropped.
He was sentenced to a $2000 fine and a one-year driving ban for the driving offences.
