The Save South Muskoka Hospital Committee is very pleased to learn that the MAHC Capital Redevelopment Committee has responded to the voices of thousands of Muskoka residents advocating for an increase to 46 beds at the South Muskoka Hospital in Bracebridge. This is of course with the expectation that MAHC Board of Directors will now pass this latest bed count; hopefully this may be expanded after future study by the Ministry of Health. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our political leaders who have tirelessly championed the expansion of beds and obstetrical services in the new hospital. Special thanks go to The Honourable Graydon Smith, MPP, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, and Mayor Rick Maloney for their commitment to achieving this important outcome. Mr. Jeff Lehman, Chair, District of Muskoka has also contributed greatly towards extending the Alternate level of care (ALC) beds within this area.
Our committee has always prioritized supporting the physicians and medical staff in Bracebridge, who deserve top-notch facilities. We are also grateful to the thousands of citizens who signed petitions, placed lawn signs and generously donated funds for signs, radio, and print advertising to raise awareness about the urgent need for change within Muskoka’s healthcare system.

As they have done with new facilities in both Burlington and Oakville (and probably others), why not build for the 60 beds now, and staff and open them, as required, in the future?
Heartfelt thanks to SSMH for the hours and hours and hours spent organizing rallies, distributing signs, encouraging letter writing, attending meetings, and keeping our community informed..Although unable to achieve the entire Care Close to Home model, without SSMH leadership I wonder if the community would have been heard.Thank you!
