Town of Bracebridge celebrates opening of 150 Forest

From the Town of Bracebridge:

Today, Mayor Maloney, members of Council and the community officially unveiled the new Bracebridge 150 forest, a sesquicentennial legacy tree planting initiative, located on Town parkland between Little Ryans Way and Gostick Park.

The forest features trees of varying size and species that align with the Town’s Urban Tree Management Plan, including Serviceberry, Red Maple, Sugar Maple, Yellow Birch, River Birch, Witch-Hazel, Tamarack, Apple (Cortland and Gala), Red Oak, Ironwood, Trembling Aspen, Basswood, Eastern Hemlock, and Nannyberry.

The Bracebridge 150 Forest stands as a lasting symbol of the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability, and the health and wellness of future generations. The trees in this legacy project will grow and thrive to be enjoyed by future generations and provides another natural, public space for the community.

The Bracebridge 150 forest is generously supported by:

  • Above & Beyond Building;
  • Country Oaks Contracting Ltd.;
  • Daleman & Westcott Professional Corporation;
  • Muskoka Brewery;
  • Muskoka Dimensions Inc; and
  • Fowler Construction, the Bracebridge 150 title sponsor.

The opening of the Bracebridge 150 Forest is one of several legacy projects being undertaken as part of the Town’s anniversary celebration. Together, these projects reflect the community’s history while investing in a vibrant and sustainable future.

The creation of the 150 forest aligns with Council’s commitment to enhance climate action and protect the natural environment. This initiative underscores Bracebridge’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.

    Don’t be fooled by these greenwashing initiatives by the Town and its Council. They recently voted for an environmentally and financially destructive new draft Official Plan. 10 storey buildings, triplexes on almost every lot, houses behind houses and rooming houses in any house. This includes existing houses. Done during the single public meeting held during the ice storm emergency. Hardly democratic. What do they want to hide? Protections against massive quarries not there.. Wetlands? Build almost to the edge. Muskoka Royale lands still open to massive development! This is a plan catering to select special interests. We already see what is happening with the golf course west of town being turned into a massive subdivision. Let’s stop this disaster at the District and if necessary at the Land Tribunal. If need be vote them out in 2026 and reverse the destructive plan. Most want a Muskoka that is the Muskoka we know and love, not some faceless problem filled suburb of Toronto.
