The construction and safety improvements to Santa’s Village Road (Muskoka Road 15) in Bracebridge have concluded for the 2022 season.
Construction crews will return in spring, 2023 to complete the ‘finishing touches’ on the road, including final paving, improvements to driveways, landscaping and restoration.
We’re almost done – we need to push some items to 2023 when the snow is gone, so we can finish landscaping and ensure property owners are satisfied.
Here’s a project summary of the accomplishments and enhancements made to Santa’s Village Road, this year in 2022:
740 meters of new water service to Santa’s Village Theme Park
2900 meters of new sanitary service to Santa’s Village Theme Park
A reconstructed roadway with improved sight lines and geometry
New granular road base material
New centerline culverts
New driveway culverts
Selective ditching at locations to promote positive drainage for the spring melt
Basecourse asphalt
Temporary driveway restoration to the base asphalt surface, and
New guiderail system with Pedestrian Access Terminals.
We’ll be back in 2023 for these finishing touches:
300m of new sanitary service under the Beaver Creek River and Trans Canada Pipeline
Top lift of asphalt
Asphalt and granular shoulder
Final driveway restoration
Ditching to complete proper drainage
Final landscaping and restoration
This project was originally scheduled to be finished this year – and we were working hard to reach that goal. Delays in obtaining necessary permit approvals and the settling of newly installed road material, have forced the completion date to be pushed back to the 2023 season. The remaining work is scheduled to begin in Spring, 2023 – and is scheduled to be complete before summer begins. There will be limited disruptions during the spring work, with temporary closures during final paving activities.
Reduced Speed Limit
The speed limit on Santa’s Village Road has been lowered to 40 kilometres per hour, and once this project is finished in the spring of 2023, a Community Safety Zone will be constructed along Santa’s Village Road from Muskoka Road 118 to Santa’s Village Theme Park.
Guiderail
With the installation of new guiderail along the shorelines of Santa’s Village Road, the District has received some requests for clarification on the significance of this item. To assist stakeholders on the need and rationale for this installation, supporting details can be found on the Engage Muskoka site or at the following link Santa’s village Guiderail.
Recognizing the presence of pedestrians and cyclists on the road and making the necessary upgrades to protect them is essential. The District values the input of all property owners, residents, and members of the community, and expresses its gratitude to everyone who has participated in the consultation process.
