Wayback Wednesday: Bracebridge High School, 1950, Grade 9C

The original school opened in 1926 as “Bracebridge High School” in downtown Bracebridge. The building sat on a hill above Wellington Street and became a major educational centre for students across Muskoka.

As Bracebridge and surrounding townships grew through the mid-1900s, the school expanded several times with additions and renovations. In 1964, the school was renamed “Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School” to better reflect the larger regional population it served.

By the early 2000s, the old building was aging and overcrowded. A new combined education and recreation complex was planned.

The current BMLSS campus on Clearbrook Trail opened in 2007.
