From the Canadian Museum of History:
“July 28, 1980 – On his 22nd birthday, Terry Fox ran through rather miserable wet conditions on Highway 11, north of Orillia. Later that day however, the town of Gravenhurst threw a huge party in an arena for him. Terry called the Gravenhurst reception one he would never forget. With only 8,000 citizens the community raised over $14,000 ― almost double his goal of $1 for every Canadian. #TerryFox #MarathonofHope”
