Year in Review: Top sports stories of 2023

As we look back on 2023, South Muskoka Doppler is checking in on some of our most-read articles of the year that was.

Here are the three most-read sports articles of 2023:

1. Bracebridge gym owner named one of Canada’s top fitness instructors

Last January, we spoke with Fyonna Vanderwerf, the owner and group fitness instructor at Hive Muskoka in Bracebridge who was named one of the top fitness instructors in Canada by Impact Magazine.

2. Bracebridge chiropractor wins 100-mile Yukon Arctic Ultra

In February we looked at Bracebridge’s Chad Barber, who outlasted competitors from around the globe to win the 100-mile distance of the Yukon Arctic Ultra race in a time of 26 hours and 15 minutes.

3. Kerr Park diamond to be renamed after Mike Holm

In April we looked at a former baseball coach, organizer and administrator who was set to be immortalized at Kerr Park in Bracebridge.

Bracebridge General Committee formally endorsed a request to have the baseball diamond at Kerr Park renamed Holm Diamond at Kerr Park, in memory of Mike Holm.
