Year in review: Top sports stories of 2024

With 2024 in the books, South Muskoka Doppler is looking back on some of our most-read articles of the year that was.

1.Aug. 14 – NHL players headed to new Bracebridge arena for meet and greet

With the opening of the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre the pubic was invited to brab a seat in the Muskoka Lumber Arena to watch a live NHL training practice featuring a selection of NHL hockey players. After the practice, guests had the opportunity to meet the players and get an autograph.

2. Aug. 14 – Connor McDavid ties the knot on Lake Muskoka

It was the Canadian equivalent of a royal wedding as hockey superstar Connor McDavid wed long-time girlfriend, designer Lauren Kyle last month on Lake Muskoka.

3. May 10 – MUSAC’s Mary Jibb makes waves in Canadian Para Swimming

Mary Jibb had a banner season representing the Muskoka Aquatic Club on the national and international Stage. With successes at Eastern Canadian Championships and the Citi Para Swimming World Series, followed by racing at the European Para Championships in Madeira, Portugal, Jibb’s capped it off by proudly representing the region at the Paralympic Games in Paris.
