Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary is excited to announce the arrival of its newest permanent resident, a snapping turtle aged over 20 years, known for his lively personality and newfound opportunity for a fulfilling life.
Affectionately named SqueeGee, this remarkable turtle was transferred from the Royal Botanical Gardens, where staff sought a suitable sanctuary that could provide him with the ideal habitat. The successful move was facilitated by Zoocheck and Niagara Action for Animals, which collaborated to create a custom enclosure tailored specifically for SqueeGee.
The newly designed space caters to turtles like SqueeGee, who are in permanent captivity and cannot be returned to the wild. This environment ensures that all of his biological and behavioral needs are met, allowing him to thrive. SqueeGee now has the freedom to roam, soak, and enjoy a serene existence surrounded by nature.
During the summer months, visitors may have the chance to spot SqueeGee basking outdoors while on guided tours. As the winter season approaches, he will retreat to a specially designed indoor habitat, providing him with the comfort and warmth he deserves.
