Community Rallies to Fund Critical Lab Equipment in Less  Than a Week

The South Muskoka Hospital Foundation is proud to share that  the community has once again stepped up in support of local care.

In less than a week, donors collectively contributed the $100,000 required for a new tissue  processor for the South Muskoka Hospital. While the Foundation raises funds for planned capital  needs every year, this item was an unplanned added exception to the list that urgently needed  replacement. A tissue processor is used to diagnose cancers and other issues, and the new tool  will ensure biopsies continue to be completed efficiently and accurately. The Foundation team  shared the urgent need with the community, and the results were immediate.

“It is incredible to see what our community can accomplish,” says Foundation Executive Director  Leah Walker. “We put the call out, and immediately donations started coming in. People care  deeply about the health of their families and neighbours, and we are so grateful.”

Thanks to the community the new equipment will be ordered and bring the lab at the South  Muskoka hospital back to two fully functioning machines.

The South Muskoka Hospital Foundation extends sincere thanks to every donor who responded to  this urgent need. Community support ensures that the hospital has the critical equipment required  to deliver safe, timely diagnostic care for patients and families across Muskoka.
