Residents and seasonal property owners in Muskoka Lakes have a new option for disposing of household waste, recycling and organics with the opening of the District of Muskoka’s new Southwood Depot.
Located at 4184 Southwood Road in Torrance, the supervised drop-off facility officially opened to the public on Saturday, July 4, with District and Township officials celebrating the milestone earlier this week.
The Southwood Depot is the latest addition to the District’s Bin Site Transition Project, an initiative aimed at modernizing Muskoka’s waste management system by replacing traditional bin sites with supervised facilities designed to improve service, reduce contamination and encourage proper waste disposal.
“The opening of the Southwood Depot provides residents and seasonal property owners with a dependable waste management option that is closer to home,” said Muskoka Lakes Mayor Peter Kelley. “This new facility supports a cleaner, safer and more efficient waste management system while ensuring residents have access to the services they need.”
Information on operating hours, accepted materials and other waste services is available on the District Municipality of Muskoka’s website.
