Councillors applaud successes of Syrian refugee family who have adopted Muskoka as their home

At their August 21 meeting, District Chair Jeff Lehman congratulated the Abdulla family who arrived in Muskoka earlier this year.

The family made a brief appearance at the District Council chambers in the early afternoon last Thursday, on their way to Toronto.

“The Abdulla family are with us today. They came earlier this year to Canada, to Muskoka, in February, supported by the Central Muskoka Community Syrian Relief (CMCSR) organization, who are here with us today as well. We wanted to have the opportunity to welcome the Abdulla family and congratulate them because this is a pretty special day, because the eldest son is headed off to Saint Michael’s College at the University of Toronto, literally this afternoon, not six months after arriving here in Canada,” said Lehman.

He asked councillors to join him in congratulating the family on their success to date and thanking the members of CMCSR for their work in supporting the family of new Canadians who reside in Bracebridge.

So delighted to hear good news about the success of this refugee family. May many more find Muskoka a welcoming and safe place to live and prosper.
