From the Town of Bracebridge:
As the Town of Bracebridge and members of the community prepare to open the new state-of-the-art Muskoka Lumber Community Centre this summer, it is also time to bid farewell to the Memorial Arena. Constructed in 1949, the arena has served the community well and has been home to local hockey teams, figure skating, programming, public skating, special events and more. The arena ice will be removed for the final time on April 2.
Final Public Skate with Mayor Maloney
Memorial Arena
Saturday, March 30 | 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.
Join Mayor Maloney for two final public skate sessions at Memorial Arena on March 30. Members of the community are invited to lace up and reminisce about past experiences at the arena. Hot chocolate will be served in the Auditorium.
Muskoka Lumber Arena
One of the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre’s many amenities will include the Muskoka Lumber Arena. This new rink will be home to the Muskoka Bears Junior C Hockey Club, as well as the Bracebridge Skating Club, South Muskoka Minor Hockey Club and the Bracebridge Sports Hall of Fame which showcases memorabilia from local sports legends including Irvine “Ace” Bailey, Frank Carson and Collin Cameron.
Best Seat in the House
There are still opportunities to get involved. Help support the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre by sponsoring a seat in the arena for $500 to have a name placard placed on a seat, plus sponsors will receive a charitable tax receipt. Fifteen per cent of every seat sale will go towards the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation’s annual capital fundraising campaign for much needed medical equipment.

peggy tupper says
Mr. Maloney will be dancing with joy at the “final public skate”. He does not like the arena and has gone out of his way to convince everyone that it is falling apart.
The arena should be kept. Buildings in Europe are 500+ years old and the arena is only 75 years old.
I will go privately and weep but will not go to any public skating.
