An impaired driver who crashed at high speed was also found to be in possession of psilocybin, a Bracebridge court heard recently.
Steven Reimer, 46, recently appeared in a Bracebridge courtroom to plead guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood and possession of psilocybin.
Court heard that on July 23, 2023, Bracebridge OPP were called to a collision on Beatrice Town Line.
According to police, a man, later identified as Reimer, knocked on the door of a home in the area seeking assistance at roughly 7:08 a.m. He told the owner he had driven off the road, and he appeared intoxicated.
Police determined the car had gone off the road at high speed, snapping several trees and demolishing the front end of the vehicle. Police found a small package of psilocybin, or magic mushrooms, as well.
A breathalyzer test came back with readings of 140 mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.
Reimer was sentenced to a $2,000 fine and a one-year driving ban for the over 80 mg, and another $500 for possession of psilocybin.
