A Huntsville man is now behind bars after racking up a string of offences.
Earlier this month in a Bracebridge court, Michael West, 40, pleaded guilty to multiple offences including break-and-enter, impaired driving, theft, and breaching court orders.
Court heard that on April 19, 2021, the police received a call at roughly 11 am about a possible impaired driver at Arrowhead Park. They found West asleep in his vehicle just outside the park gates and he was arrested for impaired driving.
On Aug. 28, 2022 police received a report that there had been a break-and-enter at the Dwight Fire Hall. Surveillance footage showed a man breaking in through the rear door of the building. Once inside, the man took a jerry can full of gas and some change. The footage also showed the thief driving away in a vehicle and they were able to recognize the driver, West, who was also banned from driving at the time.
West was sentenced to 165 days in jail, 24 months of probation, and he was banned from driving for three years.

He needs rehabilitation, and I don’t mean a few sessions whilst he’s in custody. Unfortunately, our healthcare isn’t structured such that individuals requiring intensive support/resources receive it. I’m not condoning or excusing his behaviour.
Being banned from driving for three years is a reasonable and expected penalty; he’s lucky it’s only 3 years!
