A Huntsville man has been sentenced to eight months in jail after pleading guilty to multiple assault-related offences, including threatening a neighbour with what appeared to be a handgun.
Robert Iwanow, 39, of Huntsville, appeared in Bracebridge court where he pleaded guilty to several charges stemming from separate incidents in 2025 and 2026.
Court heard that on April 28, 2025, members of the Huntsville OPP responded to a dispute between neighbours. Iwanow became involved in a verbal argument with three men outside his residence that escalated into violence. During the confrontation, Iwanow struck one of the men with a dog leash. The victim was able to deflect most of the blows before a further altercation occurred, during which Iwanow suffered significant head injuries.
Iwanow was originally charged with assault with a weapon in relation to the incident but ultimately pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of assault.
The court also heard that in February 2026, Iwanow became upset about the volume of a neighbour’s television. Armed with a steel rod and what appeared to be a handgun, he went to the neighbour’s apartment to confront them. The handgun was later determined to be an airsoft gun.
During the confrontation, Iwanow grabbed the victim and pointed the airsoft gun at the victim’s head. Another person intervened and police were called to the scene.
The court heard that Iwanow has a prior criminal record.
Iwanow was sentenced to eight months in custody.
