From the Port Carling Skating Club:
This past weekend the Port Carling Skating Club Synchronized skating teams travelled to Stratford, Ont. for the Skate Ontario Provincial Championships where their Pre-Novice (Star 8) team took home the silver medal with their seasons best score of 32.51.
The Port Carling Skating Club was incredibly grateful and honoured to have two teams qualify. They did so through a series of competitions held throughout Ontario starting in December. The Pre-Novice Ice Lightning team which consists of skaters aged 13-18 skated to a “Disco” themed program. The Juvenile team age 10-14 skated to a “Diva” theme, placed 10th and represented our club proudly. Synchronized skating is a unique type of skating where 8-16 skaters come together on the ice to perform as one. It takes hours of dedication on and off the ice for these young athletes to master their programs. The club is extremely grateful to its head coach Marnee Reid for bringing her passion and skills for synchronized skating to the club. It is her dedication and love of the sport that has attracted so many of our youth to skate and remain skating for life.
Congratulations to the Pre-Novice team on their silver medal and the Juvenile squad on reaching the provincial championship. To celebrate these skaters come to check out the club’s year-end carnival which will be held April 1st at 6:30 pm at the Port Carling arena, admission is by donation.
