Town to launch “best seats in the house” campaign

The Town has announced that on Friday, June 10th the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre Fundraising Committee, members of Bracebridge Council, and campaign partners will be at the Memorial Arena for the “Best Seat in the House” Arena Seat Sale and “Buy a Bay” Library Bookcase Sale campaign kickoff.

Bracebridge has developed comprehensive plans to replace the Town’s 70-year-old Memorial Arena and 111-year-old Public Library with a regional community hub, which, in addition to the arena, auditorium and library replacements, will include a multi-sport field house (double sized gymnasium with track) that will support a wide variety of community uses.  Other amenities include: a concession, outdoor playground, trails, open spaces, parking and an area retained for a future second arena.

On July 13, 2021 it was announced that Muskoka Lumber and Building Supplies Centre Ltd. (Muskoka Lumber), is providing multi-year funding for naming rights to the new Muskoka Lumber Community Centre and the Muskoka Lumber Arena to support construction of this transformational community centre.

The approximately 113, 700 square foot community centre includes a 1,000 seat arena, modern public library, community auditorium, indoor multi-sport field house, common lobby, 330 parking stalls, outdoor play spaces and an area retained for a future second arena to accommodate they community’s growth projections.

If this is a ‘regional centre’ then why is the bill going to the Town of Bracebridge. Isn’t this costly arena going to be used by all Muskokans? All Muskoka taxpayers should pitch in.

$50 million plus debt to Bracebridge taxpayers. Fuzzy bidding practices. I guess Mayor Smith needed to get away from the looming Bracebridge tax catastrophe. .
