Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Scott Aitchison announced his charity golf tournament, The Scotty, the major sponsor as well as this year’s fund recipients at a press conference held Wednesday at the Grandview Golf Course Clubhouse.
Devonleigh Homes was confirmed as the Presenting Sponsor of the charity golf tournament for three years.
“I am so proud to bring The Scotty to life. I am thrilled to host a day of community, charity, and fun, as Parry Sound-Muskoka comes together to support causes near to my heart, and the heart of our amazing community,” said Aitchison.
Aitchison thanked all sponsors and supporters of the charity event. The funds raised will go to three organizations: MiND-AID, Community Living Huntsville, and the Stan Darling Memorial Fund.
Community Living Huntsville will be the largest recipient of funds from the tournament in support of their housing programs for persons with developmental disabilities. “These vital funds will assist us in opening the door to housing inclusion with innovative solutions, like our Transitional Housing initiative to end homelessness for adults with developmental disabilities,” said Suzanne Willet, Executive Director of Community Living Huntsville.
“Our System Navigation and Support service is reaching hundreds of young people annually, but we are now developing a Mobile Youth Wellness Hub so we can reach even more youth in need. Funds raised by The Scotty will help us to achieve this goal and bring support to the young people who need it,” said MiND-AID Executive Director Jody North.
The Stan Darling Memorial Fund will also receive funds from The Scotty in support of their scholarship program. Every year, one graduate from every secondary school in Parry Sound-Muskoka who is graduating onto post-secondary education in an environmental field is awarded a Stan Darling Environmental Scholarship. The funds raised from The Scotty will ensure this legacy in memory of former Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Stan Darling continues on, according to Aitchison.
The Scotty Charity Golf Tournament will be held on Thursday, September 14th at the Grandview Golf Club in Huntsville. Registration is still open for golfers and sponsors. Please visit the tournament website at: www.thescotty.ca
