For those of you who follow us on social media, THANK YOU!
We are not going to argue here the merits or the shortfall of Bill C-18 other than to note that in retaliation to the legislation, platforms such as Facebook and Instagram are blocking Canadian news content and Google has threatened to follow suit.
As this could affect the manner in which you access Doppler, we want to make this change as easy as possible for you.
Never has keeping you informed with accurate information about what is happening in south Muskoka been more important. We continue to work hard to bring you local content and thought-provoking commentary and to provide a forum for you to exchange respectful ideas and concerns with members of the community.
No one really knows how Bill C-18 will play out, but we expect there will be a dogfight between the Canadian Government and platform providers for the foreseeable future.
In the meantime, to ensure that you are able to continue to enjoy all that Doppler has to offer, please bookmark and memorize our web address (https://southmuskoka.doppleronline.ca/). This will ensure that you are able to find us, even on another web browser, should Google remove all Canadian news content.
We also urge you to subscribe to our newsletter HERE. It is FREE and an easy way to keep up to date with everything that is happening in our community.
We are passionate about what we do, and we will continue to have you covered with news, commentary, community events, and a platform for you to speak out when you feel the urge!
If you have questions or need help, we are here for you. E-mail us at [email protected] or contact us at one of the numbers below.
Sincerely,
Hugh Mackenzie – Publisher Matt Driscoll – News Editor
