Bartender helps nab Gravenhurst driver at triple the limit

An impaired driver was taken off the road thanks to a Gravenhurst restaurant worker.

Appearing recently in a Bracebridge courtroom, Victor Groves, 45, pled guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in his system.

Court heard that on March 23, 2024, at 5:15 pm the Bracebridge OPP received a call from a bartender at a Gravenhurst establishment. The caller believed a patron was impaired when he left the establishment in his vehicle.

The man, identified as Groves, returned to the bar and was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. A breathalyzer test resulted in readings of 250 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, more than triple the legal limit.

Court heard Groves has a previous conviction for impaired driving.

He was sentenced to a $2250 fine, a 12-month driving ban and 12 months probation.
