Footprints in the snow led police straight to the location of a thief, a Bracebridge court heard recently.
Last month Andrew Bennett, 26, pled guilty to breaking and entering, and breaching court orders, stemming from an incident that occurred on Nov. 24, 2022.
Court heard that Bennet was on probation and living in a Bracebridge hotel at the time of the incident. A female called the police to report that her room at the same hotel had been broken into.
Upon investigation, police were able to determine that Bennett had asked hotel staff to unlock her room. They refused and Bennet then broke in through a window and stole the victim’s wallet, some change and a lottery ticket worth $4.
The police found tracks in the snow leading from the victim’s window to Bennett’s room and he was subsequently arrested.
Court heard that Bennet has 27 previous criminal convictions as an adult.
He was sentenced to five months in jail and 18 months probation.
