Bracebridge man to jail for damaging storage units

A repeat offender has found himself behind bars after pleading guilty in a Bracebridge courtroom.

Andrew Scriver, 25, recently pled guilty to breaching court orders and causing mischief by damaging storage units.

Court heard that on Feb. 21, 2023, the Bracebridge OPP responded to a possible break-and-enter in Gravenhurst. The caller reported they had seen a man using bolt cutters to enter storage units, although nothing was actually taken from the units. The man was confronted and left on foot but was later identified as Scriver by the police using CCTV footage.

Several hundred dollars worth of damage was done to the storage units but nothing was actually stolen, court heard,

Defense lawyer John Sharkey told the court nothing was stolen because Scriver is homeless and was looking for blankets and warm clothing.

Court heard Scriver has an existing criminal record and he was sentenced to 60 days in jail.
