Community Builder and Former Mayor Scott Northmore Remembered

Scott Northmore, a former longtime mayor of Bracebridge and respected public servant, has passed away.

Northmore served on Bracebridge council for 18 years, including two terms as mayor from 1998 to 2006. During his time in office, he helped guide several major community projects, including the construction of the Bracebridge Sportsplex, the development of Peake Fields, and the continued beautification of Bracebridge Bay Park.

He also played a key role in helping the community navigate the economic uncertainty that followed the closure of the Alcan Cable plant in 2002, working to stabilize the local economy during a challenging period.

Outside municipal politics, Northmore served for many years as Muskoka’s Deputy Sheriff. His contributions to the community were later recognized with inclusion on the Reflections of Bracebridge Heritage Mural.

Current Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney paid tribute to Northmore on social media, highlighting both his years of public service and his impact on future generations of local leaders.

“Scott always had time to chat. He was a people’s Mayor,” Maloney wrote. “He was the Mayor who encouraged a much younger me to consider serving municipally. A Mayor who bridged a community in transition, building the foundation of what Bracebridge is today.”
