From Hospice Muskoka:
Hospice Muskoka successfully launched its first annual Hike for Hospice Fundraising event this fall. Thanks to the generosity and commitment of sponsors, participants, volunteers and staff, the event exceeded expectations.
An ambitious goal of $50,000 was set and close to being achieved. The funds raised will enable Hospice Muskoka to continue providing free programs and services to residents of Muskoka, as well as their families.
The Hike began with a beautiful opening ceremony, which included a land acknowledgement by the event hosts, Muskoka Lakes Farm & Winery. This was followed by drumming and smudging led by Chris Walser from the Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle. The ceremony concluded with Henrietta, Hospice Muskoka’s mascot, energizing the crowd with a dance number.
Participants had access to more than 10 kilometres of trails, each offering a diverse mix of landscapes and an opportunity to glimpse the legendary bog monster. Despite the non-competitive nature of the hike, there was a friendly rivalry between teams of Paramedics and Firefighters. Many participants attended the hike to honour their loved ones. Furry friends came out to show their support too.
The date for Hike for Hospice Muskoka 2024 has been set. Mark September 8th, 2024 on your calendars. We are hearing rumblings about a Skate for Hospice event this winter. Stay tuned for more details!
