A call to the police about a man swerving and drinking out of a Solo cup helped get an impaired driver off the streets, a Bracebridge court heard recently.
David Deman, 53, recently pled guilty to driving with over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in his system.
Court heard that on April 10, 2021, at roughly 6:30 pm, Bracebridge OPP received a call for service regarding a potentially impaired driver. The caller reported a driver on Manitoba Street who crossed into oncoming lanes of traffic and was consuming a beverage out of a Solo cup while drving.
Police caught up with the driver, Deman, in the parking lot of a local inn. The man was consuming a beverage outside the vehicle but the hood was still warm and Deman was arrested for impaired driving.
He ultimately blew readings of 141 mg and was sentenced to a one-year driving ban and a $1650 fine.
