From the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department:
A few minutes past 4 pm today firefighters were called to a report of a structure on fire on Muskoka Road 118. Multiple callers stated they could see the roof on fire of a large 2 storey cottage, ember blast was spreading into the nearby vegetation. Members from Foots Bay, Port Carling, Minett and Bala Stations attended the scene with 2 pumpers, 4 tankers, and 2 fire boats.
Upon arrival members reported a fully involved cottage with fire coming through the roof. The incident was upgraded to call for more tankers and fire boats. The three occupants and dog were outside of the structure, they had been alerted by a passing boater who made them aware the roof was on fire.

Investigation is ongoing, no firefighters or civilians were injured. Loss estimate is over 2.5 million. Saved structures on the property that were under threat included a 2 storey boathouse with 4 vessels, a large carport and a 2 car garage.
