Driver ends up in swamp, then in court

An Etobicoke woman recently admitted in court she had been drinking when she crashed into a swamp.

Olivia Urbaniak, 25, appeared in Bracebridge court to plead guilty to careless driving stemming from an incident on June 17, 2023.

According to a police report, on that day at 7:30 a.m., police received calls reporting a vehicle that had left the roadway and settled into a swamp area on Highway 118 East in Bracebridge.

When police arrived they found Urbaniak in the driver’s seat. She admitted to having been up late the night before and alcohol was found in her system.

She was sentenced to a $2,000 fine and must have an interlock system installed in her car for the next 12 months.
