To celebrate Mother’s Day, all Canadian residents can fish for free this weekend anywhere in Ontario.
“Free fishing is a great way to get out as a family to celebrate Mother’s Day and enjoy our beautiful lakes, rivers and streams,” said Graydon Smith, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry and MPP for this area.
“Whether you’re new to fishing or have been doing it for years, what better way to kick off the spring season than enjoying fishing with family or friends.”
If you are fishing for free on the Mother’s Day weekend, all conservation licence catch limits, size limits, sanctuaries and all other fishing regulations and rules still apply.
“We’ve doubled the number of free fishing events in Ontario since we took office in 2019 because we think it’s really important that people get an opportunity to get out, you know, from behind the screen or off the couch and be part of nature,” said Smith. “It’s an opportunity to be out with family, loved ones, friends,” he said, adding that he has many great memories of going fishing with his own father. He said he hopes people take advantage of the free fishing weekend and get out and make some memories of their own.
