A local man recently admitted to hurling racist slurs and repeatedly slamming a door on a Bracebridge OPP officer’s foot.
Appearing recently in a Bracebridge courtroom, Eric Paulette, 33, pleaded guilty to assaulting a peace officer.
Court heard that on Dec. 16, 2022, police received a call regarding a dispute between neighbours at an inn on Highway 11. Court heard that Paulette, who was highly intoxicated, called the police repeatedly through the night to come and deal with the situation. However, court heard that Paulette became belligerent as the night went on.
He invited police into the residence, court heard, but then refused. He slammed the door repeatedly on the officer’s foot and then grabbed the officer, leading to a scuffle. He then hurled racist insults at one of the officers before being arrested.
Court heard Paulette has a criminal record. He was given a suspended sentence and 12 months of probation.
