A Gravenhurst man recently added another three assault convictions to a criminal record that already included more than a dozen previous assault convictions.
Stephen Schell, 32, pled guilty to assault causing bodily harm, assault by choking and assaulting a police officer.
Court heard that Schell had 16 assault convictions on his record and had finished a two-year stint in prison in June 2021, when he committed his next assault in December of 2021. On Dec. 22 he went to collect $80 in debt from another man. The victim did not have the cash on him so Schell punched him in the face several times, shattering his orbital bone, and then brandished a knife, court heard.
A warrant was put out for his arrest and on Feb. 15 police in Richmond Hill received a call about another assault by Schell. Hel was arrested at the scene and placed into custody. The court heard that at some point Schell became irate about the potential loss of his property and headbutted a constable.
He was ultimately sentenced to 31 months in jail and two years of probation.
