A Gravenhurst woman who said she stole a running pick-up truck because her friends dared her to, had some explaining to do in a Bracebridge courtroom recently.
Lindsay Wyton of Gravenhurst recently pled guilty to stealing a 2014 GMC Sierra, stealing a tub of ice cream from a grocery store and failing to attend court.
Court heard that on Dec. 17, 2021 at roughly 5:30 pm police received a call about a theft from a Gravenhurst business. The owner reported he had gone into the store and left his truck running. When he came back out it was missing. The vehicle was later found and Wyton was seen on security camera footage taking the vehicle. She was in the vehicle with two other people and admitted to taking it “on a dare”.
She then failed to appear to answer the charges in court on May 3, 2022.
On July 24, 2022 a police officer spotted Wyton at a local grocery store and knew she had outstanding warrants for her arrest. Subsequent to her arrest, the police searched Wyton and found a tub of ice cream on her person.
Court heard Wyton has a previous criminal record.
She was given a suspended sentence and 18 months probation.
