Huntsville man pleads guilty to apartment rampage

A Huntsville man who went on a very costly rampage was recently held to account in a Bracebridge courtroom.

Jeremy Stead, 39, pled guilty to causing more than $5,000 worth of damage during an incident on August 26, 2022, and also pled guilty to causing a disturbance by screaming and swearing in a grocery store on August 28, 2022.

Court heard that during the August 26 incident, Stead became upset in the lobby of his apartment building in Huntsville and began damaging property there. That included taking a hammer to his lobby mailbox, smashing a button in the elevator, and breaking the elevator door, as well as a fire exit.

Two days later the Huntsville OPP received a call from a local grocery store at roughly 10:00 a.m. reporting that a man was swearing and yelling at customers and damaging products. Grocery store staff informed the opp that the customer, Stead, had been denied alcohol service, which caused him to fly into a rage throwing beer at the customer service desk and spraying it throughout the area.

Stead was ultimately given a suspended sentence and 18 months probation. He was also ordered to attend counselling and pay $397 in restitution.
