A Gravenhurst man required emergency CPR to save his life after crashing his ATV, a Bracebridge court heard recently.
Philip Martin, 69, pled guilty to driving while having more than 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in his system stemming from a Sept. 9, 2022 incident.
Court heard that on that day at roughly 6:30 pm the Bracebridge OPP received a call regarding an ATV accident in Gravenhurst. Court heard that Martin had been driving the ATV back from a hunting camp when it had rolled and landed on top of him. When a second man arrived they found Martin was not breathing. The second man then had to roll the ATV off of Martin and perform CPR. Fortunately, CPR was successful and Martin was then transported to hospital, however, he suffered significant injuries, court heard.
Blood samples provided readings of 164 mg of alcohol in his blood, more than double the legal limit.
“It’s not lost on Mr. Martin how lucky he is to be alive,” said defense lawyer Rabi Sahota.
Court heard Martin has no criminal record and he was sentenced to a $2,000 fine and a one-year driving ban.
