Learn to play golf croquet this June in Bracebridge

The Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club is delighted to offer a new FREE croquet program this June, thanks to a $5,000 grant from ParticipACTION and the Government of Canada.

The free “Learn to Play Golf Croquet” program is available for players new to the club.  Instruction, equipment, and membership for the month of June is included for a limited number of participants.

Sally Mills, Past President and Head Coach stated, “This is a new and excellent opportunity for anyone who is interested in learning this fun, low-impact, social sport.  This is the first time we have been able to offer one of our popular instructional programs at no cost.  We expect this fantastic program opportunity will fill up quickly, and hope that all participants will eventually join the club as full members.”

Jeff Shurie, Club President explained, “This is not the croquet of your youth. Golf croquet is a fun, fast paced game with a skill set that can be picked up quickly.  We are lucky to have Sally as our head coach and I hope many people will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.”

The bowls club started the croquet program in 2021 as a way to bring in additional members.  The 120’ x 120’ flat green is perfect for croquet, and a way to utilize the green when it is not being used by lawn bowlers.  Many members play both sports.

Currently, the club plays a game called “golf croquet”, which was invented in Canada.  Golf croquet is a fast-paced, easy-to-learn game which is rapidly growing in popularity across Canada, the USA, Australia, and the UK.

The lawn bowling club will also offer their “Learn to Lawn Bowl” program from May 29th to June 8th for $60.  This program includes four lessons, all equipment, and membership for the month of June, as well as an introduction to golf croquet.  The $60 fee is refunded when they join the club as full members.  Full details and registration for both programs are on the website; muskokabowls.ca

The Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club, located on the grounds of the Muskoka Highlands Golf Course, holds various member events, leagues, community events, and tournaments for both lawn bowling and croquet throughout May to October.  For more information or to register for the spring programs, visit www.muskokabowls.ca, call 705-645-9767, or email [email protected]

This project has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada.
