Miles Hammond Fundraiser generates $25,000 for childhood cancer

The memory of Miles Hammond continues to shine brightly, as a fundraiser in his name recently generated $25,000 for pediatric oncology.

Miles Hammond passed away just days after his first birthday in 2021 due to an aggressive cancer. In the wake of that tragedy, Miles’ parents Kent and Kate Hammond started the Miles Philip Hammond Memorial Fundraiser.

Last year the inaugural edition of the fundraiser generated $20,000 for pediatric equipment at Soldiers’ and the Miles Hammond Endowment Fund. This year was even more successful as the second annual event raised $25,000 for the Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital Foundation.

According to Kent, some of these funds will be used to purchase a specialized monitoring station for pediatric oncology, and the rest will be directed into the endowment fund they have set up in memory of Miles, which will continue to accrue interest and go towards further pediatric and NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) needs.
