Modified bag helps thief nab whitening strips

A specially modified bag helped a thief steal $500 worth of teeth whitening strips in Gravenhurst.

Appearing recently in a Bracebridge courtroom, Gabriela-Iul Slabu, 24, pled guilty to theft.

Court said that on Nov. 18, 2022, Slabu attended a grocery store in Gravenhurst, where she was observed stealing $500 worth of toothbrushes and teeth whitening strips. Slbu left the store without paying and was apprehended by a stop-loss prevention officer in the parking lot. Court heard Slabu had a bag specially modified with a tinfoil lining to help defeat the store’s security systems.

Slbu was given a conditional discharge and 12-month probation.
