Muskoka couple celebrate 70 years of marriage

Howard and Muriel Carr were married on a day like today—70 years ago! They were married on April 4, 1953 in Huntsville.

Howard was born April 10, 1930. He worked at Huntsville Dairy, Ecclestone Hardware located on the Main Street and, until he retired, he worked at Easton’s for more than 25 years. He was also a full-time volunteer firefighter with Station 1 in Huntsville.

Muriel was born August 1, 1933 and worked most of her life until she retired at A&P in Brendale. Muriel spent a lot of her spare time volunteering at the Legion and also enjoyed being a Lioness lady.

Muriel grew up on Markle’s Road (named after her dad Emmett Markle) and Howard lived in town. After they were married, they purchased a house on Markle’s Road. In 1971, they moved into town and purchased a house on Chaffey Street until it sold and became a commercial property.

They had three children: Bobbie, Doug and Debbie.

When a family member told them, “that’s a lot of years together…70 years!”,  her reply was “yes it sure is!” and his reply was “we’ve had fun though, eh.”

Howard said his secret was to keeping it together was to listen to the boss, noted their daughter Debbie.

Howard and Muriel love to spend time with their 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grand children.

Congratulations to Muriel and Howard for celebrating their Platinum Jubilee!
