The countdown is on! The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, presented locally by Country 102 and supporting the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka, will take place on May 27, 2023, at Memorial Park in Bracebridge. The event aims to raise $75,000 to support individuals and families living in Muskoka and Parry Sound affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. This year’s walk promises to be better than ever, with a combination of in-person and virtual options to accommodate all participants.
The Walk for Alzheimer’s is more than just a fundraiser; it’s a day of fun, fitness, and raising awareness for a world without dementia. Last year’s event raised over $60,000 to support families living in Muskoka and Parry Sound, and this year’s walk is expected to be even more significant, as the need to support the growing number of those affected by dementia in Muskoka and Parry Sound is increasing.
Notable participants in this year’s event include the Bracebridge Town Crier, Bruce Kruger, who will lead the start of the Walk, Deputy Mayor of Bracebridge, Brenda Rhodes, and Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP, Graydon Smith, who will attend to show their support for the cause.
The event will take place at Memorial Park in Bracebridge, with a kick-off BBQ sponsored by the Lion’s Club of Bracebridge at 12:00 pm, followed by the official Walk at 1:00 pm. Participants are encouraged to register ahead of time at www.AlzheimerMuskoka.ca. Even those unable to attend in person can still register online and virtually walk on their own time.
Interim Executive Director and First Link Care Navigator, Pamela Leeder, states, “Every cent raised through the Walk for Alzheimer’s will help fund crucial programs and services in Muskoka and Parry Sound, such as information and support for those who have received a dementia diagnosis, as well as for their families and caregivers.”
The Alzheimer Society of Muskoka is committed to this important cause, and if the fundraising goal of $75,000 is met, Pam Leeder has agreed to dye her hair blue, making a bold statement in support of the organization’s mission.
