Port Sydney’s Nathan Perry was a silver medallist in all three of his events at the Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island.
An incredible week for Nathan. His last race was a 5-kilometre race which is continuous double poling his body weight around a course of uphills, flats, and downhills. There is little rest for Nathan as he navigated these courses.
The Cross Country Ski Ontario Para Nordic program had a very successful week with 14 medals contributing to the Team Ontario point tally. The Para Nordic had 4 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals. The Para Nordic program had one of the best Canada Winter Games medals count. Unfortunately the Cross Country Ski Ontario Olympic stream athletes were shut out from the medal count with many athletes close to medaling Team Ontario finished second with 108 medals behind Quebec with 151 medals.
On Saturday, March 11, the Ontario Para Nordic program will finish its last competition for some of the athletes with the National Ski Championships being held in Thunder Bay. Nathan will not be attending. He’ll be taking the time to recover from an amazing season of competition. Local Paralympian and World Champion Collin Cameron has been a huge mentor to Nathan and has shared some sage advice with Nathan on technique and strategies.
Cross Country Ski Ontario (XCSO) is greatly anticipating the arrival of brand new para sit skiing equipment for both dry land and on snow, arriving within the week. Arrowhead is looking forward to the new equipment and hosting some ‘Try It’ days for athletes with a disability in the future.
