New Affordable Housing Development Opens in Bracebridge

The District of Muskoka is celebrating the completion of 100 Pine Street, a new affordable housing development in Bracebridge that will provide 44 homes for seniors and people living with disabilities.

Officially opened on June 15, the building offers a mix of affordable studio and one-bedroom rental units. The development is intended to support residents on community housing waitlists as well as individuals who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Designed with accessibility in mind, the building includes 14 barrier-free units, an elevator, accessible parking and universal design features throughout all apartments and common areas. The project also incorporates environmentally friendly technologies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency and lowering operating costs.

Located close to public transit, McVittie Place and nearby walking trails, the development is intended to help residents remain connected to the community while providing stable and affordable housing.

“As the cost of living continues to rise, it is more important than ever to build communities where everyone has access to safe and affordable housing,” said District of Muskoka Chair Jeff Lehman. “These 44 new affordable housing units respond directly to Muskoka’s deepest housing need by providing a place to call home for residents who need it most.”

The project was funded through contributions from all three levels of government, including support from the federal Affordable Housing Fund, the National Housing Strategy, and provincial programs such as the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative and the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative.

The opening ceremony brought together the Associate Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the MPP for Parry Sound–Muskoka, District and Town councillors, project partners, contractors and community leaders.

The development is one of the first major projects completed under Muskoka’s “Big Move on Housing,” an eight-year strategy aimed at increasing housing supply across the region. District council has committed more than $35 million toward housing initiatives focused on reducing homelessness, expanding affordable housing and supporting future residential growth.

District officials say 100 Pine Street represents a significant step toward addressing Muskoka’s most urgent housing needs and ensuring more residents have access to safe, stable and affordable housing.
