Muskoka residents now have a new option for disposing of household waste, recycling and organics with the opening of the Lake Muskoka Depot in Bracebridge.
The District Municipality of Muskoka officially marked the opening of the supervised waste depot on June 15, although the facility began accepting materials from the public on June 13. Located at 1770 Beaumont Dr., the depot is the latest piece of the District’s ongoing effort to modernize waste collection services across Muskoka.
The new facility is expected to play a key role for residents and seasonal property owners who do not receive curbside collection or Lakeside Waste Collection services.
“The Lake Muskoka Depot gives residents and seasonal property owners a convenient and reliable place to manage their waste close to home,” said District Councillor Brenda Rhodes during the opening ceremony. “It’s an important addition to the community and helps ensure residents continue to have access to modern waste services.”
The opening marks another milestone in Muskoka’s Bin Site Transition Project, which has seen unsupervised waste bin sites phased out in favour of a combination of expanded curbside collection, supervised depots, improved recycling and organics programs, and lakeside collection for eligible water-access properties.
District officials say the changes are designed to create a cleaner, safer and more environmentally responsible waste management system while maintaining access to services across the region.
Drop-off depots remain an important part of Muskoka’s waste collection network, particularly for residents in areas where curbside pickup is unavailable. The District says the new Bracebridge-area facility will provide a reliable and convenient disposal option while supporting broader environmental goals.
The Lake Muskoka Depot is now open and serving residents from across the area.

Residents had their drop bins removed in the fall with no notification from District. Reduction of services with no notice. Email, phone call or the Municipal Act required mailer all would have worked. Not a stellar effort. Definitely not worthy of ribbon cutting.
